Lockdown Workshops

Virtual drawing workshops, (Just Like) Art School launches it’s ‘Padlet’ classes to a wider membership audience.

Each Friday Pat Thornton sets a theme with examples of other artists’ work. Themes could be anything from a self portrait, to something hand held, to a piece of furniture: but it’s all about looking and editing down to what you find interesting. She doesn’t promote any particular style or method as she feels it’s important for students to find their own visual language, while exploring a broad range of artistic approaches.

Regular drawing is not only the nearest thing to mindfulness and mental well being, but hugely helpful to your art practice, what ever form that might take.

As a member you will receive an email with an easy click link to a PADLET workshop, (and a password). You will be able to view the work set, upload your own drawing, see other contributor’s work and receive feedback from Pat. Links to the first four free Padlets remain open access (see links below) and for examples work we have done in the past at the Dairy studios in Lewes can be viewed on our Facebook and Instagram pages. There are plans to invite visiting artists to talk about their work and processes from time to time so do watch out for events here on our website. If you have any questions feel free to email.

Virtual Workshop

Venue: your own domestic space (kitchen table, coffe table, floor, a bit of wall).

Materials: all you need is access to the internet, some paper and something to draw with (pencil, pen, marker, crayons, whatever you have to hand)… and a camera/phone to photograph and upload the drawing to our virtual wall space.

Drawing in isolation might feel lonely, but knowing we’re all working on the same task simultaneously, creates a collaborative sense of community. What happens? We respond to a theme, we work for a set amount of time, then – having photographed the results – we share our drawings to Padlet. Finally, we have a sort of crit, with feedback on all contributions. Always fun. Always inspiring.

A salon is a gathering of people, held partly to amuse one another and partly to increase the knowledge of the participants through conversation. These gatherings often consciously follow the aim “either to please or to educate”
